Course Goal: Students will learn and be trainied in the operational use of the ASP tactical baton with particular focus on carrying (portation,) drawing (presentation,) striking techniques, mechanical function and maintenance of ASP tactical batons.


The ASP ABC (ASP Basic Certification) Tactical Baton Course is a 8-hour, hands on participatory seminar. Students will be trained in the operational use of ASP tactical batons. ASP tactical batons are designed as a defensive impact weapon. The tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained. This course provides techniques that work 90% of the time on 90% of subjects and retains the ability to disengage or escalate force as the situation may require. The training incorporates drills which simulate the stress of real life street encounters. This course is meant to provide all Law Enforcement, Correctional personnel, Executive Protection Professionals, Security Officers and all law-abiding citizens with a basic understanding of the conditions in which the baton may be used, justification for use and how to document these actions. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be certified for a period of two years.

*STUDENTS MAY ONLY USE ASP BATONS (Agent, Protector, Talon, Friction or LeverLoc batons.) You may bring your own ASP baton(s), provided they pass inspection by the instructor.


*** Pursuant to New York State Penal Law § 265.01, it is unlawful for persons to possess these types of batons in New York State unless exempted according to § 265.20. For this reason, all persons not exempt wishing to attend this course, will be enrolled in a course being held in a jurisdiction outside of NYS where it is lawful for you to do so. ***
