Course Goal: This 16-hour course (10 hours of discipline & 6 hours of Basic Instructor Training BIT) teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course.
Description: This course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students must demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course student packet.
Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prerequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates must complete the Basics of Pistol Shooting-Instructor Led Training Course, the NRA Basic Instructor Training Course (BIT), a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
If you have taken the Basic Instructor Training (BIT) within the last 2 calendar years, you do not have to sit for the BIT portion, although it is highly recommended to continuously develop your skills as an instructor.
* By attending this Instructor level course you will be afforded the opportunity to successfully complete all required objectives and satisfactorily prove to the Training Counselor that you possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to be considered for recommendation to become certified as a NRA Certified Instructor in this discipline.
Please remember this is a performance based course.
