Course Goal: To develop NRA Certified Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructors to teach the RTBAV seminar in their community.

 

Course Overview: Welcome to the National Rifle Association’s Refuse To Be A Victim® (RTBAV) Instructor Development Workshop. Refuse To Be A Victim® is the NRA’s award-winning personal safety and crime prevention program. This instructor development workshop will provide you with the training and credentials required to teach Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminars in your community. These sought-after seminars teach participants how to improve their personal safety strategies, and what techniques and tactics can be used to help avoid becoming easy victims of crime. In general, seminars heighten public awareness of what can and should be done to stay safe. 

 

What You Will Learn: Instructor Development Workshops are taught by Regional Counselors and begin with a Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminar. In general, seminars heighten public awareness of what can and should be done to stay safe. The workshop then focuses on the technical aspects of the program; instructor expectations; certification guidelines; speaking and presentation skills; and marketing strategies.

 

Topics include:

 

  • NRA policies and procedures

  • Instructor guidelines

  • Program goals, philosophies and administration

  • Planning, promoting, conducting and closing a seminar

 

During these lessons, special assignments will include:

 

  • Planning a mock seminar

  • Completing and submitting a grant application

  • Exploring the NRA Program Materials Center

  • Generating a business card and letterhead

  • Writing a press release for local media

  • Developing a seminar promotion plan

 

Prerequisites: You must be 18 years of age, have a clear criminal record, attend a RTBAV Seminar and complete Basic Instructor Training (BIT) prior to attending the IDW.

 

* By attending this Instructor level course you will be afforded the opportunity to successfully complete all required performance objectives and satisfactorily prove to the Training Counselor that you possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to be considered for recommendation to become certified as a NRA Certified RTBAV Instructor.

 

Please remember this is a performance based course.
