Course Goal: This is an 11 hour course (5 hours of discipline & 6 hours of Basic Instructor Training BIT) that teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential in organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Home Firearm Safety Course.

Description: This course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, appropriate NRA Instructor Candidate Packet (includes lesson plans for the courses(s) you are preparing to teach), and appropriate NRA basic course student packet.

 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the NRA Basic Instructor Training Course (BIT) and prior to the course, complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises. 

 

If you have taken the Basic Instructor Training (BIT) within the last 2 calendar years, you do not have to sit for the BIT portion, although it is highly recommended to continuously develop your skills as an instructor.

 

* By attending this Instructor level course you will be afforded the opportunity to successfully complete all required objectives and satisfactorily prove to the Training Counselor that you possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to be considered for recommendation to become certified as a NRA Certified Instructor in this discipline.
